Arts centre wins under the 'Access for all' category

The University's arts centre, Embrace Arts, has won a Leicester and Leicestershire Excellence in Tourism Award, under the 'Access for All' category.

The award, granted by Leicester Shire Promotions and VisitEngland, celebrates organisations that provide high value access for all visitors, particularly people with disabilities and access needs.

Embrace Arts is committed to nurturing independence and confidence within the building and through a year-round arts programme across a wide range of local communities, particularly targeting those with disabilities or mental health issues. This commitment will continue with the development of a new gallery and stimulating exhibition programme, coming in 2015.

Being a centre of excellence for inclusive arts practice and offering opportunities to participate in the arts without barriers in ways that challenge and inspire are key goals for Embrace Arts’s day-to-day work.

The public is encouraged to support the award-winning work of Embrace Arts by contributing to the Breaking Barriers Appeal, which will ensure ongoing opportunities for even more people by creating a fantastic new galleries wing.
