Children adversely affected says study involving Leicester Professor

Binge drinking during pregnancy can increase the risk of mental health problems - particularly hyperactivity and inattention - in children aged 11 and can have a negative effect on their school examination results, according to new research.

Professor of Perinatal and Paediatric Epidemiology in the Department of Health Sciences, Professor Elizabeth Draper (pictured), was involved in the study.

The research looking at data from a study at Bristol was published in the journal European Child & Adolescent Psychiatry.
