University arts centre hosts work by children's book illustrator Reg Cartwright

Leicester-based painter and illustrator Reg Cartwright’s work to be exhibited at Embrace Arts

Leicester-based painter and illustrator Reg Cartwright’s work will be exhibited at Embrace Arts throughout May and June.

Reg Cartwright’s work includes children books illustrations, many in collaboration with his wife Ann. His work includes illustrations in 40 books, which have been exhibited around the world. Cartwright’s books are inspired from his walks in the Leicestershire countryside. His book ‘Mr Potter’s Pigeon’ won the prestigious ‘Mother Goose Award’ for the most exciting new illustrator of children’s books in 1980.

'Birds, Beasts and Fishes: Reg and Ann Cartwright' will take place as part of The Spark Festival, between Monday 19 May and Sunday 13 July 2014, and is free to attend.

Exhibition highlights include:

  • Original artwork and books signed by the artist, curated around the theme of animals.
  • A chance to see artwork from the Cartwright’s personal collection.
  • A free special preview event with Reg and Ann Cartwright will take place on Monday 19 May, 12pm – 2pm.
  • A free family drop-in workshop to create a giant collage inspired by Reg and Ann Cartwright work on Wednesday 28 May, 10.30am - 3pm.

The exhibition and events will take place at Embrace Arts, Richard Attenborough Centre, Lancaster Road, Leicester LE1 7HA. The gallery opens Monday to Friday from 9.15am to 6pm, and some weekends.
