"UKIP poses challenge to Conservatives but faces own dilemmas too," academics say

Dr Philip Lynch and Dr Richard Whitaker from the Department of Politics and International Relations have published a blog post on the LSE British Politics and Policy Blog about UKIP and the European elections.

While the supporters of UKIP have been shown to come from across the political spectrum, the party has in the past mainly posed a strategic challenge for the Conservative Party. The blog discusses these challenges and contemplates whether UKIP’s strategy of broadening its support, by going after working-class voters and formulating more policy proposals, may backfire.

In addition, Dr Whitaker gave a media briefing 7 May for the Political Studies Association on UKIP and the 2014 European elections based on collaborative work with Dr Lynch, which can be found below.
