Design accommodates the exponential growth in the use of mobile and tablet devices

We have today launched a new University homepage which unifies the top level assets and under a stronger single look and feel. The course finder is featured more prominently, allowing visitors quick access to our courses as well as other key areas Research, Business and Enterprise, Alumni which have been given prominent positions at the top of the main page.

The News and Events field has been revised based on research and integrated into the new architecture to enhance and promote the range of activities we undertake across the institution.

To accommodate the exponential growth in the use of mobile and tablet devices, the Web Team has purposely opted for a clean look that incorporates improved usability features; for example, larger hit areas to aid touch screen users.

The process involved analysing the competition and testing the designs with our audiences. We also used Google Analytics to get an understanding of which links people regularly clicked on and which they didn't.

For further information and insight into the research the web team has written a blog about the process.

Once the new homepage goes live the work remains ongoing. We will continually evolve the site to keep abreast of changing technology, design trends, user habits, University goals etc. We will monitor its effectiveness using Google Analytics and user feedback and make improvements and amendments as necessary.
