Ali Imdad (pictured) was welcomed back to the University to celebrate young entrepreneurial talent in Leicestershire at the grand finale of the Entrepreneurs of the Future 2014 competition.

When speaking to guests at the awards night, Ali highlighted his own journey from Birmingham to the University of Leicester and onto the popular BBC TV show, 'The Great British Bake Off'. He emphasised the importance of perseverance in the face of challenge in order to reach a goal.

This year’s finale saw Gateway College students win first prize with their business idea, iBear. The product is an innovative baby monitor combined with a soft toy. Students from Leicester College came second place and students from South Leicestershire College came third.

The Colleges-University of Leicester Network (CULN) received £10,000 funding from the LLEP, Leicester City Council and Leicestershire County Council to run the project. The funding for the project, now in its third year, was used to enable people across Leicestershire to learn about business and entrepreneurship, as well as set up their own enterprise projects.  Each enterprise idea was pitched to a Dragon’s Den type panel with the third to first placed winning projects announced on Wednesday 7 May.

At the University’s newest conference centre, College Court, the winners were announced in front of guests from The Prince's Trust, Leicester City Council and the Leicester and Leicestershire Enterprise Partnership.
