Leicestershire’s three Biomedical Research Units (BRU) held an Industry Open Day on Tuesday 11 March, 2014.

The event, which was attended by 39 delegates, including 18 representatives from Industry, showcased the capabilities of the Cardiovascular; Diet, Lifestyle and Physical Activity; and Respiratory BRUs and the opportunities they present for Industry partners.

It also provided an opportunity for key players from the pharmaceutical and devices markets to come together and engage with Leicester’s world-leading clinicians and researchers to discuss better partnership between academia and industry in improving health discovery and science.

Delegates were welcomed to the event by Professor Nigel Brunkskill, Deputy head of our Department of Infection, Immunity and Inflammation and Director of Research and Development at University Hospitals Leicester, and listened to presentations by the three BRU Directors and an overview of how research processes are managed by the Trust.

A presentation on the benefits of collaboration from an industry perspective provided a valuable springboard for discussion in the afternoon.

During the day, delegates were also given the opportunity visit the Respiratory and Cardivascular BRUs and a ‘virtual tour’ of the Diet, Lifestyle and Physical Activity BRU.
