The University of Leicester is ranked as the top employer of graduates among UK universities by The Complete University Guide

The Complete University Guide has revealed that manufacturing remains a key recruiter of graduates to graduate-type employment in the East Midlands, but with the public sector still ahead of the finance and retail sectors.

Public sector employers, including the University of Leicester, the Royal Air Force and Leicester Royal Infirmary, attracted some 50 graduate recruits.

The analysis covers full-time, first degree leavers, entering full-time paid professional/managerial level employment and excludes the 10,500 doctors, dentists and nurses who secured employment in the NHS. The analysis is restricted to employers who recruited four or more graduates in 2011-12. It also excludes graduates who launched their own businesses with fewer than four graduate recruits.

Bob Athwal (pictured), Head of Student Experience at the University of Leicester, said: “We are pleased to be recognised for making a good contribution to aiding employment of graduates. Leicester is committed to developing students’ attributes in preparation for work and equipping them with the skills that employers value.

"Last year we launched a major internship programme which will create up to 500 paid internships per year designed to develop confidence, commercial awareness, and employability skills.

"Our ambition is for students to graduate from Leicester not only with a degree from a top 20 university but with an experience of employability that will stand them in good stead for the future.”
