Dr Katherine Gibson, lecturer at the University of Western Sydney to give anniversary lecture.

From just a couple of rooms and a world map to its name, the Department of Geography has come a long way from its inception in 1924, says Dr Jenny Pickerill from the Department of Geography.

To commemorate the ninetieth successful year of research and education at the department, Dr Katherine Gibson (pictured), Fellow of the Institute of Culture and Society of the University of Western Sydney, will be giving a lecture on The Politics of Performing Diverse Economies.

The lecture will explore the concept of “Diverse Economies”, which allows geographers to study and conduct a multitude of economic studies worldwide.

Having led research projects in Australia, Papua New Guinea, the Solomon Islands and the Philippines, the Department of Geography is honoured to have Dr Gibson hosting the historic lecture and is a sign of its success and commitment to its continuing legacy.

The free public lecture will take place in the Ken Edwards Building, Lecture Theatre 1 on Wednesday 12 March at 6pm.
