Physics student Nishad Karim to work with Guardian newspaper for summer placement

Nishad Karim (pictured), a PhD student from the Department of Physics and Astronomy, has been awarded a place on this year’s British Science Association (BSA) Media Fellowship scheme - and is the only PhD student in the UK and Ireland to receive the award this year.

She will be working with newsdesk writers at the Guardian newspaper headquarters in London this summer, where she will be writing, blogging and podcasting as part of the science news team for six weeks beginning at the end of June.

As part of the wider Fellowship, after her Guardian placement Nishad will be attending the British Science Festival with the BSA press team in September, where she will be able to network with experienced journalists from across the UK.

The BSA Media Fellowship Scheme allows academics to enhance their abilities in engaging with science media communication aimed at the general public.

The Fellowship is open to all science academics throughout the UK and Ireland, from PhD students to Professors. To apply, visit the website here.
