University of Leicester Team to Participate in Engineering YES National Finals

The Leicester team celebrated a double success at the final heats event of the 2014 Engineering YES competition held 1-4 June in Milton Keynes.

The team - Stephan Hug and Xingzhong Liang from the Department of Engineering and Andrea Giugliano from the Department of Computer Science - won the Best Teamwork Prize.

The Leicester team developed a business idea around a paint designed to reduce a building’s vulnerability to earthquake damage. Over the three days of the competition the team worked to develop their business concept - benefitting from advice and support provided by industry and business experts.

The Leicester team narrowly lost out to a team from University College London and as runner-ups will now go on to represent the University at the final competition to be held 18 June 2014 at the Birmingham Science Park.

The Leicester team's participation was made possible by financial support from the Graduate School and coaching by Martin Coffey of the University's Academic Practice Service.
