Over £200,000 to encourage students back into sports

The University of Leicester & the Students’ Union have secured a significant grant from Sport England to develop sport at the University.

The University has been awarded £226,032 over three years to part-fund a project that seeks to encourage more students to be more active, more often.

‘Activate Leicester’ aims to take informal sport into areas close to where students live: car parks, Halls of Residence and parks. The focus is on fun and participation in the hope that it will trigger a lifelong engagement with sport & exercise. Exit routes to clubs and further sports & activities will be provided.

Director of Sport, Colin Hide, said: “This is a fantastic vote of confidence in sport at the University and a huge opportunity to engage with our students through sport and further improve the student experience. We look forward to working with our project partners to roll out the project across the University.”
