Competition promotes Vaughan Centre for Lifelong Learning's Certificate of Higher Education in Creative Writing

Blossoming writers and storytellers throughout Leicestershire have been invited to let the imagination run wild in a writing competition hosted by the Vaughan Centre for Lifelong Learning.

The inaugural Summer Short Story Competition 2014 is open to adults and younger entrants aged from 10-15 throughout Leicestershire and provides writers with the chance to enter stories from any genre or style.

The competition promotes the Centre’s Certificate of Higher Education in Creative Writing. For those wishing to develop their career profiles or to progress to more advanced study, the course provides an ideal way of improving critical and communication skills and of gaining a valuable extra qualification.

Throughout the course, primary emphasis is placed on the actual processes of writing and on the practical use and manipulation of language for specific effects and purposes. Practical activities will be informed by critical analysis of examples taken from the works of established writers.
