To commemorate the First World War centenary, the University will be taking part in the national ‘LIGHTS OUT’ event on Monday 4 August between 10-11pm.

During this time, the University will be shining a single light from the Fielding Johnson Building, which was used during the First World War as a hospital building, across the Welford Road Cemetery.

Another light will shine from the top of the Charles Wilson Building, which will be directed towards the War Memorial in Victoria Park.

‘LIGHTS OUT’ is an event across the UK that invites everyone to take part by turning off their lights from 10pm to 11pm on Monday 4 August, leaving on a single light or lit candle for a shared period of reflection.
