Former student receives scholarship to take on PhD at University of Tokyo

Lewis M. Antill, recent MChem (in Chemistry with a Year Abroad) graduate, has been awarded a Japanese government Monbukagakusho:MEXT scholarship to fully support his PhD studies on the Graduate Programme on Environmental Sciences (GPES) at the University of Tokyo starting this October. The MEXT scholarship includes all University fees, a monthly stipend and return airfare from the students home country for the full period of study.

His PhD proposal, under the supervision of Professor Jonathan R. Woodward, focuses on the field of spin chemistry. The research will aim to gain a deeper understanding of the comprehensive photo-induced kinetic processes within cryptochromes in both solution and cellular environments, and to develop key connections between the fields of spin chemistry and behavioural biology.
