Suleman Sacranie receives his Midlands Entrepreneur of the year Award 2014 in Birmingham

Suleman Sacranie, former student at the University was granted the highly- sought after  title during the Midlands Business Awards held in Birmingham this year.

Suleman himself is the driving force behind the Leicester- based 99p Shopper Network of franchised stores, which started off online back in July 2010.  After completing the University’s Enterprise Inc. programme run by the Career Development Service, Suleman has since won the Midlands Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award (2012) as well as secure a multi-million pound deal for one of his business ventures – Mad About Deals, specialising in online sales of discounted and clearance stock. Suleman has also found fame through the BBC Series ‘Million Dollar Intern’, where he posed as an intern, successfully re-energising a failing business.

The Career Development Service works closely with students to develop entrepreneurial talent and currently supports around 100 new business ventures created by both students and graduates of the University.

Rajinder Bhuhi, Enterprise Manager at the Career Development Service said: “We have a great tradition at the University of Leicester of supporting business start-ups where students and graduates can freely access the quality training, support and resources needed to help develop business skills and make ideas become a reality.”

The University recently hosted the Natwest Mobile Business School, a quirky 1960s style double decker bus providing students and local residents the opportunity to find out more about business start-up potential.
