The ELTU has recently received an extremely good British Council inspection report and has been deemed a ‘Centre of Excellence’ by the leading news publication in the field of English as a Foreign language, the EL Gazette, as a result.

The English Language Teaching Unit (ELTU) had its four-yearly British Council inspection visit in February 2013. With over 500 accredited institutions, it is by far the largest quality assurance scheme for English language training providers in the UK. It covers four main sections (Management, Resources and Environment, Teaching and Learning, and Welfare and Student Services) with 109 assessment criteria.

The ELTU maintained its accreditation with all section standards met and eight areas of strength listed in the publishable statement: staff management, student administration, quality assurance, learning resources, academic management, course design, teaching, and care of students.

Roger Smith, ELTU Director, said: “We are delighted with the outcome of the inspection visit. It’s a tremendous achievement and testimony to the quality and commitment of the ELTU staff.”

The inspection report is available in the public domain on the British Council website.

More information about other ELTU activities, including information about new initiatives from October 2013, summer courses run by the ELTU and rapid pre-sessional growth is to follow.
