Our academic in largest ever study of culture and behaviour in NHS

A research programme aimed at uncovering the prevailing culture and behaviours in the NHS in England has uncovered a culture of box-ticking and regulation.

Professor Mary Dixon-Woods (pictured) of our Department of Health Sciences was involved in a two-year research programme spanning the period from 2010, following the initial inquiry into Mid-Staffordshire, to the passing into law of the latest reconfiguration of the NHS in England - the Health and Social Care Act in 2012.

Mary, who is Professor of Medical Sociology, authored the study with Professor Michael West, from the University of Lancaster, who led the study.
