Young students from the Children's University celebrate their graduation

We recently hosted two large Children’s University graduation ceremonies between 17-18 September in the Peter Williams Lecture Theatre and the Ken Edwards Lecture Theatre 1.

More than one hundred local children received bronze, silver and gold certificates at these events, recognising that they have amassed at least 30, 65 or 100 hours of extracurricular learning outside of regular school hours.

The young graduates, who were thrilled to be able to wear the traditional graduation cap and gown, are pupils at Samworth Enterprise Academy and Soar Valley College.

The parents of the students also attended to celebrate the achievements of their sons and daughters and everyone had a thoroughly enjoyable time.

The Children’s University is an out-of-hours national educational programme set up in the 1990s for children aged 7-14. At the heart of its work is the ambition to raise aspirations, boost achievement and foster a love of learning, so that young students can make the most of their abilities and interests, regardless of the background into which they were born.
