The University will be hosting a public lecture by Professor David Nutt, former Chair of the Advisory Council on the Misuse of Drugs, at the Frank and Katherine May Lecture Theatre in the Henry Wellcome Building at 5.15pm on Wednesday 20 November.

His talk, 'Drugs Without the Hot Air', will be hosted by the Department of Criminology as part of its Scarman Lecture series. Professor Nutt aims to present the issue of drugs in an objective light, free from the often reactionary opinions and misconceptions surrounding them.

The lecture will also discuss the troubling questions hanging over the issue of regulating drugs, including alcohol and tobacco, including how we go about regulation in light of rising healthcare costs from misuse and the proliferation of synthetic agents bought and sold over the internet.

The talk is free and open to the public, and will be followed by a wine reception with the opportunity to speak to Professor Nutt.
