On Thursday 25 April 2013 the refurbishment of the Percy Gee Building won the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) 2013 East Midlands regional award for Building Conservation.

The RICS Awards showcase the most inspirational regional initiatives and developments in land, property, construction and the environment. The awards are open to everyone working in these professions.

As part of the University’s £1 billion campus development programme, an 18-month major refurbishment and extension project transformed the 1957 Percy Gee building into a modern, purposeful and attractive new Student's Union.

The award (pictured) was collected by Professor Helen Atkinson, Chair of the Project Implementation Team.

There was further success for the University with the new Manor Road Sports Centre rated as highly commended in the Leisure and Tourism category.

Both projects were managed by the Estates Development Team.
