University of Leicester’s Dr John Bond discusses unique fingerprinting techniques

Dr John W Bond OBE (pictured), Senior Lecturer in Forensic Sciences in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Leicester appeared on BBC Radio Leicester on Monday 13 May to talk to presenter Ben Jackson about his career in forensics.

Dr Bond joined Northamptonshire Police in 1993 to lead their Forensic Science Unit and since then his interest in forensic processes has led him to develop a technique for lifting fingerprints from metal, specifically bullet casings, years after they were left by taking advantage of the corrosion caused to metal by fingerprint sweat.

Over the past four years, Dr Bond has published over 40 research papers and patents related to new ways of visualising fingerprints.
