University of Leicester mathematician’s industry standard textbook was released on 1 July 2013

Dr Stephen Garrett (pictured), from the Department of Mathematics has published a new text book which is set to become the industry standard for the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries in the UK and the CFA in the US.

Introduction to the Mathematics of Finance: A Deterministic Approach offers a highly illustrated introduction to Mathematical Finance, with a special emphasis on interest rates.

The publication follows the core subjects covered by the first professional exam required of UK actuaries, realigns the table of contents with the CT1 exam and includes sample questions from past exams of both The Actuarial Profession and the CFA Institute.

The book, which was released on 1 July in the UK and will be released on 27 August 2013 in the US, is linked to many of our Maths degrees (Undergraduate and Postgraduate) and will be used for teaching at the University from autumn 2013.
