Karl Mannheim Professor of the Sociology of Education at the Institute of Education, University of London; widely published in the field of education policy analysis

Professor Stephen Ball FBA has been Karl Mannheim Professor of the Sociology of Education at the Institute of Education, University of London since 2001. He has previously taught at Sussex University and King’s College London and has held the position of Editor of the Journal of Education Policy since 1985.

12 Economic and Social Research Council studies have been conducted by Professor Ball, largely focusing on issues of social class and policy.

He is an author of 19 books, mainly in the field of education policy analysis, and more than 150 journal articles.

In 2000, Prof. Ball was elected as an Academician of Social Science and, in 2006, became the first sociologist of education to be elected as a Fellow of the British Academy.

Professor Stephen Ball will be presented with an Honorary Doctorate of Letters at this week’s Graduation Ceremony on Friday 12 July 2013.
