Travel Plan on course for success

Successful University of Leicester Travel Plan initiatives have reduced lone car drivers by more than 10% since 2009

The number of vehicles in University car parks has decreased with lone car drivers now at 38%, compared to 49% in 2009, according to the Travel Plan Survey. These results exceed targets and means that the University is in a great position to meet the target of a 15% reduction by 2015.

The main shift is in both walking and cycling, with train use also increasing despite the increase in fares. It is likely that this is due to University incentives, such as the introduction of flexi car park permits, the opening of the Bike Park in front of the library, discounts on bus and rail season tickets, and the rising cost of fuel.

The Travel Plan is now focussing on working with the City Council to improve bus links and cycle routes to our sites.
