University courses provide introduction to interpreting for bilinguals

The Research Centre for Translation and Interpreting Studies, based in the School of Modern Languages, offers intensive, short courses in community interpreting for those working or aiming to work in the profession.

The next course is planned for 13 - 24 January 2014 and costs £800, with a discount of £300 for the first ten applicants accepted on the course. The Centre can also create bespoke courses to particular specifications.

The courses are for bilinguals who may already be practising interpreting in the community, but who have had little or no formal training.

Community interpreters are frequently used by schools, hospitals, social services, courts and the Police – environments where accuracy in interpreting is vital.
