University of Leicester academics give their take on the political situation in North Korea

Two University of Leicester academics have addressed the developing political situation on the Korean peninsular in separate pieces for Leicester Exchanges.

Dr Simon Bennett, Director of the Civil Safety and Security Unit, writes a thought provoking piece on the role of the 'dangerous other' in politics, drawing parallels with George Orwell's 1984 where the threat of war is used as a form of social control.

In a separate piece, Dr Andrew Futter, Lecturer in International Politics at the University of Leicester, outlines the current North Korean crisis and what the country's acquisition of nuclear weapons and recent provocative rhetoric might mean for the region.

Both pieces are available to read on Leicester Exchanges.
