Recent University of Leicester English graduate Emma Howard, is set to run the London Marathon and raise money for people living in poverty overseas.

Emma hopes to raise £3,000 for CARE International UK, an international development charity and, a microfinance initiative launched by the charity.

The decision to raise money for lendwithcare came after travelling to Benin in West Africa where Emma met and supported entrepreneurs there.

Lendwithcare enables people in the UK to make small loans from as small as £15 to poor entrepreneurs looking to start or expand a small business. The whole loan is sent directly to the entrepreneur and the money is usually repaid within 6-12 months. The initiative is currently operational in Togo, Benin, Cambodia, the Philippines, Bosnia-Herzegovina and has recently expanded to Ecuador.

CARE International UK fights poverty and injustice in 87 countries around the world to help the world’s poorest people find routes out of poverty. The charity's mission is to create lasting change in poor communities and put money where it is needed most.

If her fundraising target is reached, Emma will be running the London Marathon in fancy dress chosen and voted for by her donors.
