Dharminder Shoker, Asset Manager in the Estates and Facilities Management Division, has taken on a new role in the film Yamla Pagla Deewana 2 (Mad Madder Maddest 2) currently being filmed on campus by a Bollywood crew of 100.

Dharminder is named after the famous Bollywood star, Dharmendra, who also appears in the film along with his two actor sons, Bobby Deol and Sunny Deol. Dharminder first met the filming team a couple of months ago, when they had first been invited by the University of Leicester to take a look around the campus as part of their location scouting visit in Leicester.

Filming was quickly scheduled across the University’s estate at the main University Road site as well as the Oadby Student Village including the Botanic Gardens, and Dharminder was surprised when the Yamla Pagla Deewana 2 team handed him a script for three scenes in the film, asking him to play the role of Mr Jindal, Sunny’s client in the film, who first appears in a scene shot at the award-winning David Wilson Library.

The YPD2 team has been keen to encourage technical involvement from the University’s film studies students and through the added support and guidance of Steve White, Leicester’s ambassador for education and Ashwani Chopra FRSA, the highly experienced UK based Line Producer for the film, the filming should prove to be useful work experience for our students.

Filming will continue in Leicester until November, and the film will be released next summer.
