Professor Kamlesh Khunti from our Department of Health Sciences has been awarded a cheque for the sum of £3,000 from the Matya Arts organisers for his influential research. The cheque was presented by Mr Arvind Patel and Mr Kishor Patel on 18 September at the Jungle Club, Bollywood Night.

Professor Khunti, Professor Melanie Davies and Mrs Susan Enright were presented with the cheque, and together head the Leicester Diabetes Centre, which has an internationally renowned reputation for the delivery of innovative and cutting edge diabetes research. Professor Khunti strongly believes in conducting research that is directly relevant to people with diabetes and those at risk of developing the condition, and the award will be used in the local community to benefit those in need.

Previous work to come from this centre includes studies into Type 2 diabetes, and in 2012 Professor Khunti was selected as one of the top 20 most influential GPs in Britain by health journal Pulse.
