University of Leicester to host lecture by Professor Lord Anthony Giddens

Professor Lord Anthony Giddens, a Professor of Sociology at the London School of Economics who started his academic career at the University of Leicester, will deliver a lecture on ‘The Politics of Climate Change’ on Wednesday 24 October.

Professor Giddens’ advice regarding social and political issues has been sought by political leaders all over the world; not only was he an adviser to the former Prime Minster, Tony Blair, but he also contributed to policy debates in Asia, Latin America, Australia, the US and Europe.

Professor Giddens’ impact on sociology has been profound, and over his lifetime he has been awarded 15 honorary degrees, including one from the University of Leicester.

Professor Barbara Misztal of the Department of Sociology is delighted to welcome Professor Giddens back to the University of Leicester. She said that the lecture offers a fantastic opportunity for both staff and students to hear from a leading modern sociologist talking on one of the key topics of our times.

The Lecture will take place at 1:30pm-2:30pm in Attenborough Lecture Theatre One, University of Leicester. The event is now fully booked.
