The Leicestershire Archaeological and History Society (LAHS), which is hosted here at the University of Leicester, is organising a local history fair this Sunday, 25 March, at Beaumanor Hall in Woodhouse, just south of Loughborough.

About 40 or so local clubs, societies and organisations with an interest in Leicestershire history will have stalls there including our School of Archaeology and Ancient History, our Centre for English Local History, University of Leicester Archaeological Services, the LAHS itself and the Vaughan Archaeological and History Society which we also host.

There will be a series of short talks throughout the day, an archaeological roadshow (bring your own coins, metalwork or pots to be identified), activities for children, tours of the 19th century hall and a chance to view the medieval heradlic stained glass in Woodhouse Church.

The event runs from 10.00am to 4.00pm, admission is just £3 (which covers everything) and it’s free for any junior historians you bring along with you. Free entry is also available to anyone who travels to the fair by steam train: a vintage bus will be shuttling passengers between the Great Central Railway’s Quorn and Woodhouse Station and the Hall.
