The East Midlands Mentoring team was invited to share their experiences at the London Deanery's 'Mentoring in Healthcare' conference last month, thanks to their unique programme of training students in the Egan method of mentoring. Two of the University of Leicester's medical students, James Kennedy and Rizwan Patel, talked about their experiences as student mentors.

East Midlands Mentoring works within the NHS to help individuals maximise their potential, and they're happy to recruit mentors from every level of seniority, from top academics to medical students. This pioneering approach helps them build a culture of support at every level of medical training.

James and Rizwan were lucky enough to benefit from four days of training in the Egan method, and have been able to use their new-found mentoring skills in day-to-day life. Their ultimate aim is to set up a student-led mentoring network within Leicester's medical school.
