Prestigious award for Criminology postgrad

Dr Matt Hopkins accepts the award from Lord Imber on Graham's behalf

A postgraduate in our Department of Criminology has been named the winner of this year’s Imbert Award by the Association of Security Consultants.

Sponsored by ASC patron Lord Imbert*, who presented the prize himself, the award is given annually to the best dissertation by a student from Leicester, Loughborough, Portsmouth or Cranfield universities.

Graham Smaul’s dissertation ‘An examination of the risk management and business continuity management policies and procedures at Dublin Airport, Ireland’ was judged the winner and netted him a glass plaque, a certificate and £1,000.

Last year, Leicester’s Stephen Peck was commended by Lord Imbert who recommended that all senior police officers should read his dissertation ‘Policing the new extremism: evaluating the effectiveness of preventative strategies in the management of counter-terrorism in the UK’. The last Leicester winner of the Imbert Award was Alison Patient in 2009.

A more detailed report about Graham's success is on the departmental website.
