Vice-Chancellor to chair national research centre

The National Centre for Social Research announces appointment of new Chair.

NatCen designs, carries out and analyses research studies in the fields of social and public policy including extensive research among members of the public. It is an independent and not-for-profit centre for social research, well-known for its annual British Social Attitudes Survey.

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sir Robert Burgess, is a social scientist and has published widely in the social sciences. He has held national roles in social science research and teaching and is also an Academician of the Academy of the Social Sciences.

He succeeds Professor Dame Janet Finch after her nine year term as a Trustee, and has been appointed Chair for an initial four year term, effective from 23 February 2012.
