Students develop marketing campaign across social media to promote Comedy Festival shows.

With just a week to go until the annual laugh-fest which is now officially known as Dave’s* Leicester Comedy Festival, a group of students from the city’s two universities has been working on a campaign to promote the events taking place at Embrace Arts.

The twelve volunteers from the University of Leicester and De Montfort University have been working with the From Dusk 2 Dawn creative community to develop a campaign called ‘Cheer Up Leicester’. Starting from scratch, the team have developed a branding identity, organised a Facebook joke competition, staged flashmobs, written and recorded songs and even made their own sock puppets, as featured in this promo clip for the Speed Drawing event on 11 February.

The Leicester Comedy Festival has been running since 1994 and over the years has featured many big names and many up-and-coming comedians who went on to be big names. This year’s event runs from 3-19 February and eight of the shows (plus one exhibition) take place at our arts centre. Embrace Arts on Lancaster Road.

We will run a full guide to the Embrace Arts comedy gigs on Newsblog next week. In the meantime, you can check out the Cheer Up Leicester campaign on Facebook, Twitter and YouTube.
