Fit for purpose: new gym facilities with state-of-the-art equipment

Wattbike: the very latest in cycling fitness equipment

With just one month before the start of the new academic year, work on our two new sports centres is reaching the final stages. The scaffolding has come down on our brand new sports centre in Oadby, near the student accommodation (which will also be available to local residents). And the new campus sports centre, which was formerly a privately owned gym on adjacent land, is being fully refurbished.

More than £350,000 has been spent on the very latest gym equipment including treadmills, bikes, steppers, rowers, cross trainers, weights etc. When the students arrive/return at the start of October, the range of fitness and exercise equipment available at the two locations will be amazing – and all shiny and new.

Among the most popular items is likely to be the Wattbike: Jessica Ennis trains on one of these. Also, this time last year, Leicester was a university without a swimming pool. When the new term starts, we’ll have two!
