One-day conference brings together experts from across the globe.

Sociologists from across the UK – and beyond – convene in Leicester today for a one-day conference on Happiness and Wellbeing: Advancing the Contribution of Sociology.

Organised by Dr Jane Pilcher and Dr David Bartram from our Department of Sociology, the event features knowledgeable speakers from Aberdeen, Edinburgh, Oxford, Germany, the Netherlands and even Australia.

Among those presenting papers is Dr Jacqueline Sanchez Taylor from Leicester who will speak on the topic of ‘Better Fake Than Real: Gender and Commoditised Well-being’.

The keynote speech will be delivered by Professor Ruut Veenhoven from Erasmus University, Rotterdam who knows a thing or two about happiness, being not only director of the World Database of Happiness but also founding editor of the Journal of Happiness Studies.
