The University of Leicester’s appeal to raise funds for a new Cardiovascular Research Centre gets another boost from a local community.

Members of Leicester’s Shree Lohana Mahajan Hindu community presented a cheque for £10,501 to the University following an address by Professor Nilesh Samani, British Heart Foundation Professor of Cardiology, on cardiovascular disease, its prevention and treatment and breakthroughs in heart research at the University.

It follows a presentation of a £4,000 cheque from members of Sikh Gurdwaras across the city just last month.

The University has just launched the public phase of its CRC appeal to raise the final £1million required to complete and equip the £12.6 million Cardiovascular Research Centre and a number of fundraising initiatives have since in the city.

Among them, the Highcross Shopping Centre is currently hosting an iconic sculpture by artist Diane Maclean symbolising the appeal and the pioneering work the centre will do.
