Despite more and more eco-homes being built in Britain, most are relying on technology that may not be as environmentally-friendly as some simple building techniques can make them.

Dr Jenny Pickerill of our Department of Geography has made the claim at the international conference of the Royal Geographical Society. According to her research, thicker walls with more insulation will see a greater benefit and can make more comfortable housing.

However, she also highlights a reluctance to take advantage of these techniques due to the higher upfront costs and diminished profit for housebuilders.
