Work begins on expanded sports facilities

The Vice-Chancellor with Kevin McGowan of Bowmer & Kirkland Building Services.

The Vice-Chancellor Professor Sir Robert Burgess was present with staff, students and representatives from the local community to mark the official launch of the £5 million facilities in Oadby.

The University of Leicester is investing in a 25m pool, sauna and steam rooms, a spa pool, gym and aerobics studio and quality changing rooms, connected to the already established facilities via a glass corridor.

Manor Road Sports Ground already provides a sports hall and activity room, running track, full-size sand-filled floodlit all-weather pitch, floodlit synthetic turf five-a-side pitch, floodlit rugby pitch, nine tennis courts (three of them floodlit), a soccer pitch and other green grass areas.

This development will put improved sports provision on the doorsteps of our halls of residence in the Oadby Student Village, maintaining our commitment to the best student experience. Staff and graduates will also have access to the facilities, as will nearby residents.
