The ceremony, hosted by the British Medical Association in London, was chaired this year by Dr Suzi Lishman FRCPath, Registrar of the Royal College of Pathologists. Among the winning books this year was The Oxford Specialist Handbook in Paediatric Intensive Care, which was co-edited by our School of Medicine’s Dr Peter Barry.

Dr Barry is a Consultant Paediatric Intensivist at the University of Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust as well as an Honorary Senior Lecturer at the University. Kevin Morris of the Birmingham Children's Hospital and Tariq Ali of John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford were the co-editors of the Handbook, which provides practical advice for children’s doctors and nurses in a handy reference format and is described as an “indispensible guide for all those who provide care to sick children”.

The Oxford Specialist Handbook in Paediatric Intensive Care is published by Oxford University Press, priced at £44.95.

Besides paediatrics, Dr Barry’s expertise has found an even higher calling – mountain-high, to be precise. He was involved in establishing the Diploma and Postgraduate Certificate in Mountain Medicine at the University of Leicester.
