Tilt is an arts company which has, since 2005, promoted spoken word events and linked them to music, performance art and visual art. They have received great acclaim for the events they manage including ‘London Liming’ – a mixture of poetry, music and dancing with a Caribbean flavour.

Well now, Tilt are coming to Embrace Arts, the University of Leicester’s arts centre, for the first ever Leicester Liming on Saturday 19 November 2011. Here’s how the organisers describe the event:

Liming is a Caribbean-style event offering a mix of poetry, music and dancing all under one roof. This ‘carnival and going with the flow’ culture from Trinidad mixes with the cosmopolitan style of England to create Tilt’s popular party atmosphere."

Tilt’s Leicester Liming will feature “an intoxicating mix of national and local talent, with legendary poet and performer Michael Horovitz (Poetry Olympics), Deborah Stevenson, Melanie Abrahams and James Ingham, plus Leicester’s very own Lydia Towsey and Michael Brome aka Sureshot. Plus reggae, calypso, Brazilian and hip-hop music by Psykhomantus (2009 DMC Supremacy Champion).”

The event kicks off at 6.00pm but there’s Caribbean food and drink to get you in the mood on sale from 5.00pm. Approximate timing: expect about two and a half hours of liming.

Tickets cost £8 or a fiver for concessions from the Embrace Arts box office on 0116 252 2455 or the Tourist Info Centre in Town Hall Square. The event is not really suitable for under-14s.
