Cricket fans pack out the Percy Gee building

Supporters of the Indian and Pakistani cricket teams crowded into the downstairs bar yesterday to watch live coverage of the World Cup semi.

As if there wasn’t enough sporting excitement in Leicester this week, the Scholar bar in the Students’ Union was packed out yesterday for that semi-final.

The Union’s Pakistani Society PakSoc organised the screening for supporters of both teams (and a few neutrals). Massive cheers shook the building as each wicket fell and each boundary was scored, catching non-sporting students and staff upstairs by surprise.

The event was covered by the Leicester Mercury and even the local TV people came along to see what was happening.

Standing room only in the Scholar!
