Senior doctor in New Zealand hospital, and ex-pat Welsh rugby supporter.

Several sources in New Zealand have picked up a story from the Waikato District Health Board about Jeremy Gasson, who is Waikato's Clinical Unit Leader of Women’s Services and Specialist Obstetrician and Gynaecologist.

Born in Pontrypridd, Gasson graduated from the University of Leicester Medical School in 1989. Last year, after a ten-year spell at a hospital in Swansea, he moved with his family to New Zealand’s North Island where his ninth floor office overlooks Lake Rotaroa.

He now oversees a department of 30 doctors in a department which includes ante- and post-natal wards as well as surgical theatres, outpatient clinics and of course the delivery ward. On top of this he maintains a specialist clinical interest in pelvic floor disorders.

The Health Board press release notes that Gasson is a rugby fan who intends to support Wales in this year’s New Zealand-hosted World Cup until they are knocked out of the competition – then switch his allegiance to the All Blacks.
