Our first ever ‘Old Girls’ football match was held on 11 June at Manor Road Sports Centre, giving former Leicester graduates a chance to show the current students how to play football.
First ever football generation game

Ruth Kelliher and Abigail Clarke

It was a successful and thoroughly enjoyable day for the University of Leicester Women's Football Club, which saw the current squad triumph over the older generation.

The youngsters, under vice-captain Abigail Clarke, started strong, scoring two goals in ten minutes and bhy half-time they were 5-2 up. The more experienced team fought back strongly to level the score at 5-all before a spectacular goal in the dying moments brought victory for the current XI.

Abigail, who takes over from Whiz Evans as team captain next season, said afterwards that: “the match was enjoyable, but vital to us for team bonding. Hopefully the spirit seen today will boost us next season.”
