Don’t Go Home Sports Week ran over 13-17 June and was aimed at encouraging students to participate in some post-exam sporting competition.

The events contained teams made up from the halls of residence, departments, local colleges, groups of friends as well as staff teams.

...saw a clash between the staff cricket team and the student cricket club 2nd eleven in a 20/20 Cricket contest at Stoughton Road. Batting first the staff put on a total of 176 which proved too many for the student side who fell well short by the close of play.

...saw the University Tennis Club run a singles tournament at Manor Road with nearly thirty entrants. After coming through group stages and knockout rounds the eventual winner was Chris Dakin in the main event with Jack Quibben taking the plate.

Tuesday also saw the five-a-side football competition with 13 teams entering from the university and the local colleges. The winning team ‘The Meat Commission’ was made up of students Greg Jones, Liam Gillard, Chris Annett, George Batts, James Davies and Greg Barklam from the University.

...saw a return to Stoughton Road for the University Cricket Club who held their annual Cricket Sixes tournament.

In between a few summer showers eight teams competed for the coveted Sixes crown, with the ‘UoLCC Old Committee’ side overcoming all comers to win the tournament.

...saw the University Volleyball Club hold an open day at Manor Road and the Women’s Rugby and Football clubs met up for an afternoon of cross sporting competition.

After games of rugby, football, volleyball and rounders a winner between the two clubs still couldn’t be found.

...well, after a long week of competition it was decided that Friday was to be a day of rest!
