Films have trailers, TV shows have trailers – why shouldn’t a stage play have a trailer?

Our hard-working and talented student thespians have been hard at work on a modern-dress version of Measure for Measure which plays the Students’ Union for three nights this week. And, to whet your appetite, LUTheatre have produced a short video trailer about the play (that's theatre manager Dr Roger Scoppie at the end):

There was a time when LUTheatre used to do a Shakespeare every year but this is the first one since King Lear four years ago and they don’t appear to have ever done Measure previously. However this year the society is taking part in the RSC’s Open Stages project to promote the Bard among amateur/community theatre groups: two weeks ago they did an updated version of Love’s Labours Lost and next term they plan to bring us Romeo and Juliet.

Over on their Facebook site, LUTheatre have posted a few photos from the technical rehearsal for Measure along with a whole bunch of shots from last week’s extravaganza A Night at the Musicals.

Measure for Measure takes place in the Queen’s Hall in the Percy Gee Building over 8-10 December 2011. Tickets are £8/£5 on the door, curtain up at 7.00pm.
