Leicester-born actress and honorary degree recipient Parminder Nagra stars in the new Horrid Henry movie.

The Bend It Like Beckham and ER actress has a starring role in Horrid Henry: The Movie, based on the books by Francesca Simon, as schoolteacher Miss Lovely.

Parminder was born in Leicester and spent her early life here, attending Northfield House Primary School and then Soar Valley College. She performed at Leicester’s now closed Haymarket Theatre and a selection of radio and television parts followed. In 2007 she was awarded an Honorary Degree of Doctor of Letters from the University of Leicester.

The Leicester Mercury ran interviews on 2 August and 3 August with Parminder.

The Horrid Henry books have sold over 16 million copies in the UK alone, second only to the Harry Potter books in children’s fiction. The stories follow the antics of a mischievous boy called Henry. In the movie his adventures include outwitting school inspectors, toppling an evil headmaster and saving the school that he is professed to hate.

Horrid Henry is out in cinemas now.
