Full two-week schedule of dancing, drinking and dodgy haircuts.

Once upon a time University life kicked off with Freshers’ Week. Then there was Freshers’ Fortnight, which was longer and more alliterative. This year, all the events are being branded Fresh Festival – complete with its own Fresh Fringe.

The Students’ Union has now posted online full details of all the jolly events scheduled to introduce new students to the delights of University life, from Monday 4 October to Sunday 17 October. There’s clubbing and comedy, music and mind-reading, a big fancy dress party and of course the obligatory bar crawl. (Please drink responsibly, folks.)

Among the highlights are Jamie Archer, the afro-haired rocker from the last series of X-Factor; Radio 1’s Jo Whiley; Stevie Starr 'The Regurgitator' (as seen on Britain's Got Stomach-Churning Talent); a DJ set from James Buckley who plays Jay on The Inbetweeners; and the launch event for the new O2 Academy featuring Professor Green.*

If you think you’ll want to attend just about everything, you can buy a Fresh Festival Pass for 55 quid. These are available online now.

The Fresh Fringe, organised by our arts centre Embrace Arts, runs from Saturday 2 October to Sunday 24 October and offers the opportunity for something a little more cultured. Highlights include dance from the critically-acclaimed Hetain Patel; a chance to meet top author Caryl Phillips; music from Angola, Morocco and Nigeria; and a never-to-be-repeated night of live art and performance antics brought to you by the unique, Nottingham-based collective Hatch.

* Not to be confused with Professor Brown or Professor White.
